The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) and the Academy for Advancing Leadership (AAL) present one-hour webinar featuring graduates from the 2019 IPEC Interprofessional Deans Leadership Program (IDLP) cohort.
Participants will gain specific ideas for how to implement campus-wide interprofessional education (IPE) in a way that is dynamic, collaborative, and mutually beneficial.
Speakers will share candid insights and experiences on how to develop policies and supports to foster IPE collaboration and achieve collective impact.
Health professions faculty, students, and clinicians will discover best practices that they can use to assist with IPE efforts at their home institutions.

- Describe interprofessional education for collaborative practice (IPECP) initiatives at UNC-Chapel Hill and OSU
- Apply leadership strategies and techniques to effectively guide IPE change
- List actionable ideas and lessons learned to enable IPE innovation and transformation

Professor, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing
Meg Zomorodi is Assistant Provost for Interprofessional Education and Practice at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Professor in the School of Nursing. Dr. Zomorodi received her BSN and PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing, and in 2014 was selected as a Josiah Macy Faculty Scholar. She currently serves as the Director of the Rural Interprofessional Health Initiative (RIPHI), in which interprofessional teams of students work together with rural and underserved communities to give back using a quality improvement methodology.
Dr. Zomorodi was named the Well Care Home Health Faculty Scholar in June 2016; establishing a partnership between the School of Nursing and Well Care Home Health to engage students in interprofessional activities and establish a program to promote home health nursing to graduate students. Previously, she served as the Faculty Lead for Graduate Programs in Health Care Systems for the School of Nursing, and was Chair for the Master’s Executive Committee. She recently completed a two-year program with Sigma Theta Tau International as a Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy Scholar, and returns annually to teach at the Harvard-Macy Institute: A Systems Approach to Assessment in Health Professions.
Dr. Zomorodi teaches across the graduate and undergraduate nursing programs and has a passion for developing collaborations and innovations in teaching.

Marcia Nahikian-Nelms is currently a professor of clinical health and rehabilitation sciences and the Director of Academic Affairs in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences-College of Medicine at The Ohio State University.
She has practiced as a dietitian and public health nutritionist for over 35 years. She is the lead author for several textbooks and is the author of peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters for other texts. Her clinical expertise focuses on development and practice of evidence based nutrition therapy for both pediatric and adult populations as well as the development of alternative teaching environments for students within their clinical training. Her current research focuses on developing pedagogy for clinical education with a primary objective to develop experiential education that will bridge classroom to practice. Dr. Nahikian-Nelms’ case study textbook (Medical Nutrition Therapy: A Case Study Approach) is now in its fifth edition.
Dr. Nahikian-Nelms serves as one of the leads for Interprofessional Education (IPE) and has contributed to the design of multiple simulations and IPE experiences within the seven health science colleges at Ohio State University.
Dr. Nahikian-Nelms has received the Ohio State University Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Teaching for the State of Missouri, Outstanding Dietetic Educator in Missouri and Ohio, Outstanding Teacher in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, and received the PRIDE award from Southeast Missouri State University in recognition of her teaching.

Academy for Advancing Leadership
Dr. Haden is President and CEO of the Academy for Advancing Leadership (AAL). Since AAL's founding in 2005, Dr. Haden and AAL have worked with more than 150 U.S. and international higher education institutions, associations, and businesses and over 5,000 individuals through professional development programs, consulting, and executive coaching services. Dr. Haden oversees ongoing leadership development initiatives in collaboration with numerous associations in the health professions as well as university partners.
In 2017, Dr. Haden led AAL’s efforts to launch leadership development on behalf of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC). The 2020 Interprofessional Leaders Development Program is the third IPEC leadership program he has helped to organize and facilitate.
His areas of expertise include leadership, organizational change, team building, and strategic planning. Dr. Haden has authored more than 80 articles and monographs and is the co-author, with Rob Jenkins, of The 9 Virtues of Exceptional Leaders (Deeds, 2015) and 31 Days with the Virtues (Deeds, 2020).
Dr. Haden is a Fellow of the Center for the Study of Great Ideas, an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Dentists, and the 2017 recipient of the ADEAGies Foundation Award for Achievement-Public or Private Partner. In 2019, he received the Ethics and Professionalism Award from the American College of Dentists.

The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) is proud to present and showcase the recent winners of the 2020 Public Health Excellence in Interprofessional Education Collaboration Award. The multi-university awardees were selected for their exceptional achievements related to their project An Interprofessional Approach to International Outreach Experiences, involving two interprofessional, international medical outreach experiences in Jamaica and Guatemala for the students at University of the Sciences, Nova Southeastern University, and Monmouth University.
Webinar participants will hear the results of their collaborative efforts and the impact of their transformative, intercollegiate partnership.

- Explore models of large-scale collaboration with the illustration of the An Interprofessional Approach to International Outreach Experiences
- Highlight innovation in addressing the social determinants of health and improving health equity for underserved populations

Dr. Cobb earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in 2015 from Hampton University School of Pharmacy in Hampton, VA. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA and PGY2 Pharmacotherapy Residency at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in conjunction with Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ. After completion of her residency training, she accepted a clinical faculty position in 2017 at the University of the Sciences as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy with the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and teaches in a multitude of courses across the PharmD curriculum. She maintains an active practice site in an adult internal medicine clinic and interprofessional student-run free clinic at Cooper University Healthcare.
In addition, she serves as a primary pharmacy preceptor for students annually on an interprofessional medical mission trip and rotation experience to Jamaica. Her practice and research interests include chronic disease state management, interprofessional education, care for underserved communities, and LGBTQ health education. Dr. Cobb is also a member of several local, state, and national pharmacy organizations including the Mid-Atlantic College of Clinical Pharmacy, Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.

John Patro Jr., OTD, OTR/L, earned a Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) from Chatham University and a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from The University of Scranton. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Lesley University, with a concentration in Adult Learning and Development.
Dr. Patro has extensive experience both as program director and teaching faculty of OT programs in New York and Philadelphia, in addition to clinical experience working in the rehab setting and rehab administration. Dr. Patro’s work in occupational engagement and leadership in occupational therapy has been presented at numerus national and international conferences, including the American Occupational Therapy Association and World Federation of Occupational Therapists.

Paula Anderson-Worts, DO, MPH, is a board-certified family physician, associate professor, and Assistant Dean of Faculty & Alumni Affairs at Nova Southeastern University - Kiran C Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU/KPCOM). As a member of the NSU/KPCOM Department of Family Medicine, she has dedicated her career to educate and mentor students and residents for the past 23 years. She severed as program director for the Family Medicine Residency and Traditional Rotating Internship programs, at Broward Health Medical Center from 2007-2016.
During her undergraduate training at the University of Miami, she majored in biology and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1988. She completed her medical training in 1994, at NSU/KPCOM.
Dr. Anderson-Worts is a prolific contributor to community service. She is committed to educate and empower people to take an active role in their own health. She has participated in numerous local health fairs and international medical mission trips. In 2000, Dr. Anderson-Worts participated in medical mission trips with students and volunteers to serve people in Guatemala and Haiti. She has also organized twenty-nine medical mission trips to Jamaica, serving over 75,000 patients since 2001.

At the FDA Center for Biologic Research and Evaluation (CBER), Dr. Elekwachi is the primary labeling, advertising and promotional product review of travel-related, herpes zoster, and human papilloma virus vaccines. She is the CBER Team Leader for the Proprietary Name Review Team. Dr. Elekwachi is the FDA Lead on the HHS Inter-Agency Adult Immunization Task Force. As a researcher, she is the Principal Investigator on two federally funded grants from the FDA Offices of Minority Health and Health Equity as well as the Office of Women’s Health, where she studies the role of health communications on health disparities and gender-sensitive messaging.
Dr. Elekwachi is a pharmacist in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) where she serves as the liaison to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Dr. Elekwachi is also an Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Administration instructor with the Maryland Department of Health where she administers training and guidance to healthcare personnel on the nation-wide opioid epidemic.

She has over 30 years of experience in adult education and continuing professional development for healthcare professionals. Dr. Novak is also the President and CEO of AEN Services, LLC, which provides consultation, continuing professional development, and conference management services. She is also a Peer Reviewer for NCNA/ANCC. Her doctorate is in Public Health: Community Health & Education, she holds 2 masters degrees, 2 bachelors degrees, and 1 associate degree (and a Partridge in a pear tree!). Karen Godard, DNP, APRN, CPNP, Clinical Associate Professor, joined Boise State University School of Nursing (SON) in 2007. She has taught courses in maternal child family clinical, leadership, public health, and child maltreatment in the prelicensure and RN-BS nursing tracks. She is an advanced practice nurse and certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner. Prior to joining the university, she provided direct primary/acute health care for children for twenty-five years.
Once at the university, she and a colleague created, co-managed, and provided health care for children placed in foster care in southwestern corner of the state collaborating with Idaho Department of Welfare Child and Family Services. She is a facilitator/presenter for “Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children” program and provides training for students in the College of Health Sciences, SON, and community.
Dr. Godard earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Northern Colorado and Master’s degree with a maternal child focus and pediatric nurse practitioner from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas. She earned her BS in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University, Denton, Texas. She is a fellow of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) and is nationally certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) in primary care. She is active in Sigma Theta Tau and serves as the governance chair for the Mu Gamma chapter.

She is a Past President for the Upsilon Sigma Chapter for Sigma and Spring Hill College Nursing Honor Society.
